Types of Ghosts.jpg

Residual

Attempts to communicate via noises, electronics, etc. Often tries to get attention and seems unaware of their current environment. May manifest as a physical appearance and is responsive in EVPs, ITC, or other forms/attempts at spirit communication.

Poltergeist

Generated by the emotional distress of late adolescent to teenaged individuals. Known for creating noises, throwing objects, and in a few cases, starting fires.

Shadow Figure

Appear as solid, dark figures. May or may not be a type of ghost but known to be in haunted locations. Considered by some to be interdimensional beings or demons. Often seen at night in a capacity similar to tales of the "Old Hag" possibly indicating a by-product of sleep paralysis.

Demonic

Often the source of negative hauntings. Does not like humans and has never existed in any kind of physical living form. Capable of throwing objects and attacking and possessing individuals. May appear as a person with missing features as they are not capable of taking full human form.

Elemental

Largely anecdotal and folklore based. Nature based entity that has never held corporeal form or was ever human. Can become trapped at a location causing activity. Often found near forests, lakes, mountains, etc. Believed to be four different varieties: gnomes, undies (water nymphs), salamanders, and sylphs.
